The Brooke is the UK’s leading overseas working equine welfare charity, dedicated to improving the lives of horses, donkeys and mules working in some of the poorest communities in the world. On average six or more people depend on the income generated through the work of each animal and so by improving animal welfare, the lives of poor people in the developing world are improved.
Our goal is to increase the number of working animals we reach from 900,000 every year to 2 million suffering horses, donkeys and mules in the most need in the developing world by 2016.
The Role
This is a rare opportunity for a dynamic, motivated individual to establish the Brooke’s presence in East Africa and build on the portfolio of work we are funding with our partners in order to facilitate expansion both within Kenya and the wider East Africa region. You will oversee the establishment of a regional office, carry out the registration of the Brooke in Kenya and represent the Brooke, its mission and values to key persons in government and NGOs within East Africa. Working closely with our UK office you will ensure partners have access to technical support in order to implement their projects whilst developing the capacity of the office to take over this supporting role in future.
Criteria
You are an excellent communicator in English and Swahili with experience of working with a wide range of individuals from government representatives and potential partners to beneficiaries at grassroots level. Ideally you will have experience of setting up a country office and acting as representative of your organisation in addition to having an interest in animal welfare. You will be experienced in strategic planning and setting up, supporting and monitoring partnerships in addition to having strong financial skills. Your persistence, diplomacy and motivation will aid you greatly in this role.
Closing Date: 31st July 2011
Interviews on: 23rd & 24th August 2011 in Nairobi
