CONTRACT PERIOD: 10 months with a possibility of extension
SUMMARY:
The District Community Coordinator has primary responsibility for, and general oversight of, day-to-day community-level activities of the project. The District Community Coordinator takes the lead in strengthening the capacity of communities to identify and address pressing needs, particularly those related to MCH/FP and HIV/AIDS. A major emphasis of the position is to foster and strengthen linkages between communities and the health facilities that serve them.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Liaise with local partners, strengthening their capacity for engaging communities in a process of dialogue, negotiation and planning for improved health.
- Create or strengthen linkages between communities and health facilities.
- Develop linkages and provide support to marginalized and hard-to-reach groups, including youth and women.
- Coordinate and facilitate community-level trainings.
- Facilitate the collection of community-level data and reporting on same.
- Initiate and nurture partnerships with new and existing stakeholders/partners
- Manage close collaborative relationships with personnel in relevant government Ministries, particularly at the district level.
- Provide liaison and technical assistance to project partners, including international, national and local NGOs and CBOs; religious and traditional leaders.
- Represent the project in district-level meetings and forums.
- Lead the preparation of sections of quarterly and annual progress reports dealing with community activities.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of diploma in social sciences
- 5-7 years of experience in public health, community development and/or youth/OVCs
- Leadership and management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a team player
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively in upper Eastern province
- Fluency in English, Swahili and relevant local dialects.
