Duties and Responsibilities
- To ensure leadership and coordination as part of UNAIDS Division of Labour for HIV in humanitarian emergencies; this includes but is not limited to active participation in UN Theme group, working on contingency planning, trainings and active response for any humanitarian emergency in the country.
- To help UNHCR and its implementing partners to design and implement a comprehensive reproductive health as well as HIV prevention and AIDS care, treatment and support intervention based on PEPFAR and IGAD project proposals as well other sources of funding.
- To strengthen UNHCR and its IP’s monitoring systems - ensure sound output and process monitoring. In consultation with partners, adapt National HIS/PEPFAR M&E tools to the refugee context and ensure that IPs periodically submit timely reports.
- Build the capacity of UNHCR health, HIV as well as community services unit and IPs to design, implement and monitor interventions that respond to the needs of beneficiaries.
- Advocate for inclusion of refugees and surrounding host population in national preparedness and response system and oversee sentinel surveillance to be conducted alongside national wide SS organized by NASCOP.
- To represent UNHCR in a selection of meetings and workshops
Qualification and experience
- Bachelor degree in social sciences, nursing, public health or related field
- 5 years experience working in HIV/AIDS programmes
- Monitoring and evaluation skills
- Experience with refugee or humanitarian situations an asset
- Excellent written and reporting skills in English
Reporting
The consultant is under the day to day administrative management of UNHCR Country Representative and day-to-day technical supervision by Public Health Officer.
Location:
The consultant will be stationed in UNHCR Branch Office Nairobi with regular travel within the country.
